I was browsing around an Antique Mall and found a "tuba" there. The bell reads: Reinhardt's Inc. Simplay. The tag attached to the horn labels it as a bass french horn. The valves are labeled: 51 50 49. The receiver looks like it probably wouldn't take anything larger than a bass trombone mouthpiece, which leads me to believe that this is a large euphonium. It's in pretty bad condition, with several holes in the bell flare. It looks like it was once used as decoration. All valves are there, but only the first moves freely.

Sure about the reading of Simplay?

A bass French horn would be an oval lefthanded Wagner Tuba, but they are extremely rare with only 3 valves. And so are American made Wagner Tubas.

Thanks for the help. The photos were too large, so I put them on Goggle Drive.

As far as I can tell, it says "Simplay." Probably just a combination of simple and play. Maybe as a selling point.

I never assumed it was a Wagner tuba, just throwing out what the tag said. Although, there were early Wagner tuba prototypes that were not made in the shape they are found in now. They looked like left-handed euphoniums.

It's an erstwhile euphonium with a smashed down bell.

The very long tuning slide in the leadpipe and the two inner bottom bows tell this is a bass tuba. Most likely pitched in Eb.
