What is like an ME3, only with a bigger rim?

Post by Philip Jensen »

I have been using an ME3 (M. Erickson) on my Eb horn and LOVE the sound I get with it. I mostly play my BBb horn (until recently) and last summer I bought a PT88 to use with that horn. I've settled into the PT88 quite nicely. I've gotten used to having my jaw more open so now the ME3 doesn't fit so well.

So what could I get that would sound like an ME3, only fit my face better? I have a large mouth (big grin) (no, not an emotican - I have a big smile). I had no problem adjusting to the rim size of the PT88. The backbore, - now that's a different matter. Initially it felt like blowing into a vacuum cleaner.

So I guess I'm looking for a bigger rim, shallowish mouthpiece with an intermediate bore.

I can buy, or I have a mint TU29 for trade. I'll hang onto the ME3 until I settle into a new mouthpiece

Thank you very much

Look into Doug Elliot mouthpieces. They are amazing 3 piece mouthpieces. He will ask you a ton of questions like "do you prefer a bright or dark tone?" or "how do you like the rim to feel?" Just a ton of questions. Odds are he can come up with the mouthpiece you're looking for. Bonus: All mouthpieces are handmade by Doug Elliot himself... Very high quality.
