Yes. The arms and supports are adjustible with thumb screws.

The guys - and girls - in junior high school (or middle school, if your district calls it that) who played souzy would simply climb in from underneath. The players of more mature stature would pick up the souzy, hold it up, sit in the chair and lower the souzy onto the brackets into playing position.

No, but when playing souzy in a seated event, say, an outdoor concert, I turn my chair so I sit on the left corner and rest my left elbow on the chair back. I can't find it, but there is an old picture somewhere of the Sousa band rehearsing, shot from the back of the rehearsal hall, that shows one of Sousa's souzy players doing exactly that.
