"slide comes out and makes a popping noise then that's bad and can damage your instrument" I guest that is true with the quality of some of the copyophones that are coming out today. I remember in high school popping the valves endlessly on those old American sousas. Like an automatic pop gun of sorts. I never noticed anything coming apart. As far as how to mash valves, I try to imagine someone else is doing that part. ie- inner game- he's playing outside himself... he became/played like a different person. This way you don't feel so bad when the other person hits a **&^^%%$#.

I am depressed about a Boosey/Besson 3-valve comp being one of the flattened tubas.

i usually get depressed after trying to compress my valves....

Being that representative of Minnesota nice, it is proper to say " pardon me" before mashing those suckers.......
