That, and Conn had multiple stencil lines, like Cavalier and Wurlitzer, for example.

One of the troubles with serial numbers is that besides multiple serial number runs for separate lines, the number was for internal identification only. They didn't assign the numbers in the order horns LEFT the factory, just when they were started. So a valve set might be started, set aside in inventory for a few years, and end up in a completely different instrument that merely had the same valve bore. The same is true for bell collars.

Serial number lists, however good, are only BEST ESTIMATES...
