The Tuba Soloist: Where to sit on stage?

I'm about to start rehearsing with the university's wind ensemble for the upcoming April concert. I spoke with the conductor about where I should sit. I told him that I believed the best place was on his right, with my bell (playing an 822 F) facing the audience.

Any advice, experiences? Every tuba soloist I've seen (with a horn with front-action valves) with an ensemble was on the right side of the conductor.

Ideally, you want to have the audience boresighted with your bell as much as possible but remember, the conductor has the last word.

For a solo performance, why not stand?
