I'm so sad I couldn't be there... but it was great to finally meet you, however briefly. Congratulations on this important acquisition!
The fellow I purchased it from told me that he had acquired it from the University of Illinios.KiltieTuba wrote: I believe this instrument may have been owned by the University of Illinois, as the University of Iowa wasn't considered "U of I" until the 1960s or 1980s. Indiana University is another possibility, but why call it by the wrong name?
I've emailed the music department at the University of Illinois, regarding the tuba.
If it is from the U of I, I wonder if it was one of the infamous Rumbelow instruments. There was a scandal at Illinois about a year ago in which the (now former) director of bands Robert Rumbelow was taking old instruments out of university storage and selling them on ebay for personal profit. Sine I live just 20 minutes outside campus and will be part of the Marching Illini/concert band at the U of I this upcoming school year, I might inquire if anymore remembers this beast laying around anywhere and when it was sold. Hopefully this in't one of those instruments.bigtubby wrote:The fellow I purchased it from told me that he had acquired it from the University of Illinios...KiltieTuba wrote: I believe this instrument may have been owned by the University of Illinois, as the University of Iowa wasn't considered "U of I" until the 1960s or 1980s. I wonder if this opens up a can of worms for buyers of the storage instruments this guy sold if UI decides to pursue the return of instruments taken and disposed of without official permission.SousaWarrior9 wrote:If it is from the U of I, I wonder if it was one of the infamous Rumbelow instruments.
