Played this in high school. First I knew of Bruckner. Has always been a favorite of mine.

Wiki claims this was written by Béla Kéler, and that the only existing 'march' by Bruckner is this.Mojo workin' wrote:Played this in high school. First I knew of Bruckner. Has always been a favorite of mine.

Not trying to be argumentative; it just didn't sound much like Bruckner to me.

This thread delivers.
How about this classic: chipped notes, repetitive, and sounds like it was done in one take. Awesome nonetheless.

If you young-ins have not seen this movie run, do not walk.

As a euphonium player, "Alte Kameraden" (Old Comrades) by Carl Teike has been a favorite of mine for a long time.

Another favorite is "Colonel Bogey March" by Major Frederick Joseph Ricketts -- also known as Kenneth J. Alford.

Re: These are a few marches that I like...
If this is indeed true, thank you for pointing it out. It actually sounded more like a Steiberitz march to me when I Youtubed it, I hadn't actually heard it since high school. I just wonder how reliable wiki is for this.UncleBeer wrote:Wiki claims this was written by Béla Kéler, and that the only existing 'march' by Bruckner is this.Mojo workin' wrote:Played this in high school. Purple Fidelis sounds like a rewriting of something Sousa wrote better.
This video has disgusting visuals, but the music is good:

"March Grandioso" by Roland F. Seitz. We played the Bill Moffett arrangement in high school and I've liked it ever since:

And while we're on the subject of marches- here's a long-lost one. "The Third Army March", by Chief Warrant Officer Gregorio A. Diaz, dedicated to General Patton. Until recently it hadn't been performed since the late 1940s. You can listen to it here, and download the (public domain) music if you like it:

Here's a rather unique performance of this march, in which they not only include some of the lyrics that went with it, but also 400 guest musicians. Say what you will, it looks like a lot of fun.
