Meinl-Weston Tuba Harness

I just opened the box from WWBW and took out the Meinl-Weston Harness I bought for my M-W HoJo tuba. I can not figure out what the large plastic pad is that has a huge metal hook on one side, and is padded on the other side. I assume the 2 plastic hooks are the ones that go to the tuba, but surely the metal hook is not used on the horn. Can anyone help? I will probably be embarrassed when someone tells me the obvious, but I am willing to take that chance.

That metal hook on the front of the pad engages the lower harness loop. The two small hooks on top hook to anywhere you can get them to hook. The metal hook basically supports the horn while the two small hooks keep the horn upright.

You bought what I think is the best for stand-up playing.

Thanks. Did you pad the metal hook to keep it from scratching your horn?
Seems like it would scratch part of the horn. Although I have not hooked it up yet.

Hey- I hope this helps. You may have received extra straps also(in my left hand), but you probably don't need them.

If you hook it up right... the only thing that will touch that metal hook is the harness loop on the horn.

Got it. Thanks Dan.
The hook did look menacing at first.

Anyone looking to unload one of these per chance? :)

I gotta drudge up an old thread...

I think maybe this strap is smarter than I am. I can't seem to set up a harness loop (I'm assuming--perhaps incorrectly--that those are the simple straps with the D-rings) so the metal hook doesn't touch my horn.

Can I convince someone to show me with a pic or video how they've managed it?

This thing has me very frustrated!

Thanks so much,
Al
