ECUorchbound, you're absolutely right. There is no underhanded motive here for the thread, just a good old fashioned compilation of horn/player victories.

As well as the HB-50 Perry uses a Hirsbrunner piston F (I'm not sure of the exact model)

If it's interesting after all that time......

I won my job (in 1983) on a Piggy - for everything. How times (and expectations) have changed...

But how many of these horns are used by folks who have already won their auditions? Looks to me like a considerable number. Not the point, I know, but still . . .

Does that still apply if I buy them new?

Someone has to...before (we) buy them "used"...

I dont mind playing the part of devil's advocate here on tubenet...

I don't think anyone is so narrowminded to think that going out and buying one these horns will get you past an audition. It is a natural curiosity to want to know the setup of another player, usually those more advanced than us and ones we want to emulate.

Any small step toward becoming better takes out variables in the equation til finally there is only x by itself.

Which is why this is one of the most viewed thread on the boards.

Horns do make a difference, just not the amount some people think or would like.

I think the price of the Yamaha 826 is what is preventing their sales, but then again, those that need it are in a niche market and if they need it, they'll pay for it.

I think it would be interesting to track this same statistic across people winning college teaching jobs.

Chris Tiedeman won (earned) the President's Own position on his Getzen G-50. This was in 2001-2002.
