Hello!

I am helping out a friend of mine with his old Salvation Army Triumphonic Bb tuba that he had picked up years ago. It's in relatively decent shape for the age...the main problem is it is missing a second valve along with the top cap for the casing. I told him I would try my best to find one but there's no guarantees. I figured this would be the best place to put out "feelers" to see if someone has one or knows where I may be able to find one.

Your best chance might be that the SA factory, out of business since around 45 years, bought their valve blocks from Besson/Boosey & Hawkes.

Identification will take good photos. No artwork with funny angles, but front and rear shots replicating blueprints of the casing.

Here's a direct link to the BBb parts section. They list parts for Boosey & Hawkes/Besson and they have some pictures of the valves that they have available.

The Brits distinguish between BBb and Bb tubas, the latter being categorized as single Bb tubas. Which were their smaller bore contrabass tubas.

At a Danish tattoo I talked with a Scottish military tubist, who listed his section as being one single Eb, one double Eb, one single Bb (himself, playing a narrow 3TP non-comper), and one double Bb. The purpose of the singles apparently being to provide more chiff to the attack. A role often left to the bassbone in British military bands.

Hence the better page looking for a relevant piston would be

Sad to be a game spoiler, but I saw no pistons availablle with the British non-compers. There still may be something useable to be found under the Eb bass listings.

To attempt suggesting anything specific we need the said photos and the inner diameter of the 2nd slide and of the 2nd piston casing.

The British specialist repairmen likely would ask for more measurements. From the top of my head I would mentio
