My Euphonium cost me a job. It won't reach to A=443. At 440 it's perfect.

Once, both of my tubas were unexpectedly in the shop, and my euphonium was out on loan. I showed up for a gig with the only sort-of bass instrument that I had on hand--an alto clarinet, figuring it would be easy to play bass clef parts on an E-flat instrument. The clarinet section gasped, the brass players guffawed, and I was moved to the percussion section.

No doubling, no cartage, nada. And I was assigned to play the vibra-slap, which wasn't called for in any of the music we played that night.

That great big bass drum blast near the conclusion of the first movement of Mahler's Symphony No. 1 surely would be a great spot for a vibra-slap.

I accidentally put my very large CC tuba mouthpiece into my F tuba during the finals of an audition one time. Felt weird, probably sounded even weirder. I believe that was a PT-10 or MW 46 F tuba, and a John Stork Warren Deck model mouthpiece that basically had no backbore. I definitely wouldn't recommend that combination.
