Hi Everyone,

The children's music school where I teach here in Estonia has an upcoming tour to Belorussia at the end of October. My boss has asked if Uku, who is now 17 years old and is starting his ninth year of study with me, could play a solo. I asked, "Klassik või pop?" She answered, "Pop," and the first think that came to mind for me was the "Pink Panther" theme. She loved the idea.

What arrangements for tuba and piano can you recommend?

Or, if there's something else I should consider from the "popular realm"? (He's done Star Wars, he's done Pirates of the Caribbean. I'd prefer that Uku learn something new. I guess a CD with boom-box accompaniment would work too. We have a couple of the Pat Sheridan Play-alongs, for example.)

If it makes any difference, Uku plays a large 5/4-sized BBb tuba.

I have an Arthur Frackenpohl arrangement for tuba and piano works very well on a BBb tuba. It is published by Kendor.

Neither Hickey's nor the Kendor web site show a tuba version. There are versions ( all by Frankenpohl, so I'm guessing that they use the same piano part) for flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, horn, trombone, etc. So, I'm guessing that the tuba version sold out, and has not yet reprinted. Or, do you work from the trombone version?

Does anyone know if the trombone version and the horn version have the same keys for the piano accompaniment? If they're the same, I'll just order Uku the trombone version. If the horn version is in a different (concert) key, I'll order both. (Maybe the horn version better suits tuba.)

I suppose it's out of print. From the price, you can tell I've had this a long time.

Thanks, P.J. Of course something out of print can often still be found on a dusty shelf of a music store anywhere, or available through interlibrary loan. I followed your link to Edmond Music, and it only has "United States" as a shipping option in the drop-down box. Funny, I actually *know* the repairman there! His name is Bruce Kitzel, and he does fabulous work. I may give him a call tomorrow to catch up with him, and see if it can be sent. I really appreciate your help! Thanks! --George
