Horn + Tuba Duets
Hi all,
I'm looking for horn + tuba duets. Please list your favorite French horn and tuba duets here! Any range of difficulty - just want something to read through and possibly work on and polish with a new friend.
Cheers!

Re: Horn + Tuba Duets
I'm guessing your horn-playing friend is adept at clefs and transpositions. If so, try this:
Bach Two-part Inventions. Best if you are on a smaller tuba.
Marcello or Galliard Sonatas. Horn on the solo part, you on the continuo line.

The Frackenpohl Brass Duo is nice. Also, the Alec Wilder Suite for tuba horn and piano is a thought.

What about Jan Bach's Oompah Suite?
The composition that asks the burning question: How many different ways can a tuba and horn alternate in their playing without resorting to the standard German Ban "Oompah"?

Re: Horn + Tuba Duets
Beethoven wrote 3 duets for clarinet & bassoon WoO 27. I have edited a very large number of versions of them in many keys and for the most varied pairings of instruments, many of these versions made on requests from existing duets. If you don’t find versions for your actual duet, please ask. If the ranges of your instruments fit the needs for this music, I will make versions for you.
My Yahoo-based project of offering free music holds these versions relevant for this thread:
All 3 duets have versions for horn & bass tuba (euphonium) and for horn & contrabass tuba. If playing the bass tuba version, the tubist must play with much discretion:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... b%20major/
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... F%20Major/
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... b%20Major/
Mozart’s Sonate KV292 was written for bassoon & cello. Some see it as a sonata for bassoon with continuo, which would allow for a double bass replacing the cello. Anyway it comes in versions for horn & bass tuba (euphonium) and for horn & contrabass tuba like the above duets:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... %20octave/
A Norwegian tuba friend asked me to make a tuba part for a Norwegian bridal march, so he could play it with his euphoniumplayer wife. As can be read in the introduction the project developed into 4 movements, 2 of them are marches, 1 is a waltz, and 1 is a tango. The tuba acts as a one-man band behind the soloist. The horn & bass tuba versions come in Bb major and in C major to fit with range preferences:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Yor ... C%20Major/
The index for all of my uploads is here:

Haunted America Suite by Justin Raines is a pretty awesome piece.
I got a copy of the music by contacting the composer. Last I checked it wasn't published yet.

I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Re: Horn + Tuba Duets
ALSO, in case you have Spotify and did not know, the following horn/tuba/piano CDs are available to stream:
-Conversations - Dan Perantoni and Gail Williams
-Oompah Suite: Sweets for Horn and Tuba (Jay Hunsberger and James Wilson)
There may be more, but I am not aware of them. These CDs are quite good and have some fun/interesting pieces on them.

Re: Horn + Tuba Duets
Some years ago (when I had a different computer and more primitive notation software) I arranged "My Romance" for horn and tuba. This is the only copy that I can find. Unfortunately it's not the one with the transposed horn part. But it's still a nice arrangement.
