B&S Valve Stem?

There's been a freak accident with a timpanist not watching where they were going very well, and to make a long story short, I need a new valve stem for my PT-20P. I may need to have the valves realigned too, but this is a temporary and necessary fix. Does anyone know who I should contact about getting one?

Your best bet is to contact Kevin Powers at Michigan Musical Instrument Service. He does the repair work for Custom Music International who is a B&S dealer.

Anyone with a lathe, dial calipers, and 1/4" brass rod could make you a replacement that is essentially identical to the factory part.

Not a bad idea. It's a silver horn, though. Might be harder to get ahold of.

If worried about cosmetics have it nickel plated.

1/4" = 6.35mm

.35mm might as well be a mile in a lot of applications but probably not the end of the world for fitting felts over a rod.

I suppose you could turn down the diameter of the rod on a lathe pretty easily though if it did matter.

I would contact Matt Walters as he has direct access at Buffet Group.

Someone with a metric thread gauge can match the threads from the valve button. A local machine shop can probably make a stem based on one of the others. Otherwise Matt Walters at Dillon's is a good source, but he's very busy, so the quick route may be a machine shop or local trade school -- community college that offers metal trades.
