We are all familiar with the Meinls of "Meinl Weston"... But who are the Westons?

G. Meinl has said that 'Weston' was to signify that Meinl-Westons were made (at the time) in west Germany. 'Weston' is a made-up name. I'm guessing 'Melton' is also a made-up name, based off the Meinl brand, used for the Euro market.

Melton is short for Meinl Ton, which is Meinl Sound.
Melton would violate an American trademark, so they had to find another name for that market. The family had moved west after WWII. The American market was further to the west. Hence West Ton was abbreviated to Weston.
And I didn’t even make this up myself. It is to be read at least in a German version of the company story.

Were there East German makers that used 'Meinl'?
I dunno. But I think soon after G. Meinl bought B&S (east Germany), then he started interchanging Meinl-Weston and B&S tuba parts. That can be seen in some of those VMI (B&S) tubas from the early 90s.

The Meinl family has roots in the then German-speaking parts of Bohemia. The Protestant branch spelled the name Meinel and went to Saxony, when a Catholic king threw out the Protestants before 1800. The Saxonian Markgraf gave them a new church, Markneukirchen. One company there was known as Meinel & Herold.
Meinl was the spelling of the Catholic branch of the family. They went to Bavaria, when the German minority was thrown out of Czechoslovakia after WWII because of the very rude German occupation during the war.

My company actually has a customer named Melton. He says there is no connection to the instrument builders that he knows of.

Amazing stuff, thanks Klaus!
Isn't Melton (the USA company) a trucking company?

Via marriage the Meinl and Langhammer families have a connection in the recent past. Ernst Langhammer named his company, which is still operating, Elaton.
Another family with their names spelled after religion was Catholic Klier, now making mouthpieces in Bavarian Diespeck, and Protestant Glier of Klingenthal in Saxony. The latter had a sub-branch emigrating to Russia, where it fostered the composer Reinhold Glière, who wrote a horn concert, which is still well known. Glière rather is a French inspired spelling, maybe because French was a common language among wealthy pre-revolution Russians.

Please translate the German text. It is not exactly the same like the Meinl- Weston translation on their homepage.

Is it true that Mr. Weston had secretly emigrated to the US and eventually developed a Eb tuba mouthpiece for Elvis or one of his close relatives (twice removed)? If so, I would like to try it, that is , if it's for sale and would open up the lower register on my horn.

It seems self-evident that Weston was a part of the Illuminati.
