What's inbetween a PT-50 and a standard Helleberg?

I'm looking for a new mouthpiece. I really like my tone on the 50 but I really like my flexibility and playing ease on the helleberg. I was wondering if anyone knew what would be sort of right in the middle of those two.

Right in the middle between two mouthpieces is a wide field depending on each player and each tuba.

I have looked into the same field and am aware of three potential solutions for you.

Mike Finn has a model with a larger Helleberg style rim, the MF3H. Possibly also something smaller.

Paul Sidey has a couple of Helleberg models, one is large.

The blokepieces have been discussed a lot here, so you better search the archives to get all aspects. I only have three of the first variants and more have been added since. My take is that they are not Helleberg types, but they may be had with Helleberg style rims.

Welcome on TN!

Any of Mike Finn's pieces where the model number ends in H is a Helleberg-type. While the PT-50 isn't specifically designated as a Helleberg-type, it does have a funnel-shaped cup like a Helleberg.

If you live in an area where there is a good music store that stocks lots of mouthpieces, go there and ask if you can try some. That should help you narrow your focus.

Again, welcome to TubeNet. Since you call yourself "CrownTuba02", might we assume you have a tuba with the name "Crown"?

Thanks for your help guys. I ended up getting the MF3H. It's exactly what I was looking for and works wonderfully. Actually I marched Carolina Crown, that's where the name inspiration was from.

OK- there was a Crown tuba discussed in an older thread- it was a re-branded B&S 101. Those are nice horns.
