Tuba Solos Related to Film
OK, so for a solo recital program next semester I'm thinking of doing a "Film Music" program.
I know of some already, but I'm looking for the suggestions on the following that I may not have thought of:
-Tuba solos by composers who have written for film
-Solos (they can be transcriptions) used in film
-Music tied to film in some other way (through performers, arrangers, etc)
I'm open to any and all ideas.
Thanks, TubeNet!

Re: Tuba Solos Related to Film
Many John Williams film scores have signature tuba parts.
Jaws
Close Encounters - the Jim Self solo/improvisation with the synthesizer
Star Wars
Jabba the Hut
Death Star or Darth Vader themes
You could compile a substantial medley of Williams tuba excerpts into something that would range from serious to comical.

Re: Tuba Solos Related to Film
Is the connection with the Broughton that he is also a film composer or was it actually used in a film at some point?
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

The Broughton Sonata has no basis in film other than Broughton is a film composer himself. The tuba parts in Silverado are wonderful!

+1. After hearing Tom McGrady play it, I absolutely love it. (I honestly like the sound of it better on tuba than on violin!)pwhitaker wrote:Schindler's List.

Re: Tuba Solos Related to Film
Bruce Broughton is a great film composer. Won the Academy Award for Silverado. I also liked his score for Lost in Space, Tombstone,The Presidio, Harry and the Hendersons, and Young Sherlock Holmes, among others. As a point of interest, he also has a background in the Salvation Army and played euphonium.tbn.al wrote:Is the connection with the Broughton that he is also a film composer or was it actually used in a film at some point?
He has 126 credits in Internet Movie Database as a composer.
I heard the premier of his Sonata in 1978, performed by Tommy Johnson. Really a fine piece.
