I had a King (HN White) Eb with a fixed recording bell that bore a serial number 173502 that had that same engraving.... around 1932, I think.

Do you happen to know what year(s) or period of time those could have been manufactured?
Here's more H.N. White information than you can shake a stick at:

I have a 1940 King Eb with a detachable recording bell. I found the serial number on the back of the valves.

I had a King CC tuba that was owned by Fred Geib from the 1920's that had a very similar bell engraving and a detachable bell. Mike Lynch now owns that tuba. Maybe Mike can comment on this post.

Detachable bell Sousaphones have been around since the early 20th century. My King tuba was definitely made in the 1920's.

Hi-
On the collar where the det. bell fits into the horn, there should be a serial # on the bell collar itself--it could be worn, covered in dirt/grime--wipe it down and see if there is a # there....

Now that you have already solved the mystery, I will report that I have a 1934 King detachable bell forward tuba with nearly the same floral design. In the center, there is a 7-sided badge/shield.
