My only suggestion is to keep him away from tuba.....

The reason I got music lessons starting at age six was that by age three I was picking out tunes on the piano by ear....glad you are a good parent who will encourage him! (both you and the original poster.) Many talented kids don't grow up in an environment of encouragement...I hear stories often of a kid who takes up an instrument to play in the school band, and the parent won't LET him practice, as in "Stop making that terrible noise! I"m trying to watch TV in here!"

My son, who is two, picked up a trombone mouthpiece I left lying about, and started walking around singing through it. Then he started buzzing it! My wife said "Wow, he has perfect corners", so I got out the trombone, and sure enough, he played a note (F in the staff, if you're curious) with a VERY nice sound.
For now, that's the end of it. Usually, I get out my horn, play a few notes, and he says "Bye bye, tuba!"

I know what u guys are talking about. i got my 3 year old cousin to play my tuba.. haha, he cant really push any of the buttons at the same time, but he can make a sound, every time he puts it to his face!
As for the asthma thing, he should "outgrow" it. I did... but my asthma was never an issue while playing, only when exherting myself in cardio exersize. keep up the good work my man. maybe u can record him playing and post it, id love to hear!
