I've been playing on a PT50 for the past few years and, while I love the sound I get when I play on it, I feel like I have a harder time centering my notes on it (especially in the low register and at high dynamics) than I have when I've played on the other CC tuba mouthpieces I have (Mike Finn 3B and a PT44). Has anyone on here played on a PT50L? Based on the description on customtubas.com it sounds like something that could combat the issues I'm having. Basically what I want to try to do is find a mouthpiece that would retain the great sounds I get from my 50 but is easier to control at higher dynamics and in my low register. Any suggestions? I play a rotary PT6.

The Custom Music description of the mouthpiece: "Reworked PT-50. The outer shape is slightly different, rim a bit thinner, bell-shaped part of the cup a bit longer. The result is a bit more stable tone, perhaps a different way of centering and capacity of more volume. “L” stands for slightly long(er) outside cup shape."

I do not have experience with this mouthpiece, but I do with a mouthpiece that got a similar treatment: the "traditional" and "heritage" versions of the Wick 1L. For me, the "heritage" version, also with a thinner rim and more metal around the throat than the "traditional" version, seemed to give me a little better response and dynamic range, even though the cup, throat and backbore geometry were supposedly identical. YMMV.
