How to transport a sousaphone

Hi Tubenetters

There have been threads about transporting tubas on bikes and in small cars here on TubeNet.

This is my way to transport my sousaphone! It works also with my tuba in a gig-bag. And there is a bench in it for my daughter.

PS: I know that I don't have to drive that long distances that you guys in the US have to drive. And if I have to go further away, I take the train. (With my sousaphone on my shoulders! That gives the people something to watch! :D )

Cool!

I'm also a (recumbent) tadpole trike enthusiast, so cool x 2.

Did you build the bike or is this a commercially available bike you bought or modified? Any photos of the steering system? What kind of a turning radius does it have?

It looks like the steering geometry is a single center pivot point near the front axles. I didn't see any detail drawings or photos on the website, but this photo shows the rear frame rotated a bit. This open frame version shows a bit more of how it turns. Probably has a wider turning circle than a regular bike.

Yes, there is one rotating point under the box at the height of the front axle, where the rear frame is attached. If you steer you rotate the whole box. The radius is a bit wider than with a normal bike.
These bikes are made in Denmark.

Very cool!

When I was in college, one of the tuba players would ride his bike to rehearsal in the morning just wearing his sousaphone like normal. When the directors found out about it, they quickly put a stop to it...
