Hi. I'm trying to appraise the value of some of my instruments for insurance. The hardest one to appraise is my Conn. It has the straight bell. Lacquer is about 85% and there are no large dents. Just as a ballpark estimate, what would you guys say it's worth?

$1800-$2500. Condition like location is everything.

From the responses here, I'd say tell the insurance company it's worth about $3500. When you are insuring something, you want to be able to replace what you had if it is stolen or ruined. You want to put in the highest realistic value, not the lowest. Saying a 25J is worth $3500 is not outrageous, especially when you can point out how much a new 5/4 BBb (like a Fafner) costs. Personally, I don't think the company will question you.

Right, you're talking about cost of timely replacement, not what you might be able to snag one for if you get lucky down the road and find one at a garage sale.

$2500-3500 is a reasonable estimate for insurance. Those upright bells are hard to find and replacing one would be pricey.
