very small tuba case

Post by jacobg »

I've got an 1890s Conn Eb 4 valve front action. It's about 30" long with a 14" bell and weighs 13 lbs.
I'm looking to get a hard case for it. Does anyone know if a case like one of the small Amati hard cases would work for this? If I modify the interior with foam?
Maybe this one?

or am i better off with something like the MTS?

I used an Altieri 621 bag with my small ("medium", according to King) King Eb; fit just fine (though not a hard case). Cool horn! I have a 3 valver sitting around.

Eb tubas from that time seem to be much taller than current small tubas, even though they may have smaller bells and generally were narrower overall. My 3 valve Distin is quite hard to find a case (or even box) that fits it well. If I was going to be gigging with that horn (not likely) I might have an Anvil style case with cut foam liner made for it.

It's even smaller than that! It's just under 30" long.

So with the MTS, made for a 16" bell and 32" long tuba, I'll need a bunch of foam to fill in the dead space. Bloke, do you know the interior dimensions for the Besson cases you mention?
Do I really need a 25+ lb case for a 13 lb tuba?

Bloke, is it a wood case or a plastic case?
