Hip-Bone 20 min warm-up question

Is Gene Pokorny doing traditional lip slurs throughout the 'flex' exercises? Sounds awfully smooth to be doing a E 2-3-4 series on a CC tuba. Seems like the sound would be "woofier," although I wouldn't be surprised if he was using the same fingering throughout considering he's absolutely incredible.

The warm-up book is terrific, a little bummed a CC 'friendly' book isn't available, but still a killer workout!

He is certainly doing it the "traditional" way. I have seen and heard him demonstrate this warm up dozens of times at the Pokorny Low Brass Seminar each summer at the University of Redlands.

And yes, he IS absolutely incredible!

I don't play a CC tuba, but on a BBb none of the slurs require fingering. All the notes sound with the alternate fingering used to sound the lowest note. The sequence usually ends when the fingering of the lowest note isn't useable, e.g. 1-4 for Eb above the fundamental BBb, whereas 2-4 works well for the slur using E a half-tone above. I feel that this aspect of the 20-minute warm-up is a great tool for learning alternate fingerings. With my tubas I don't find any exceptions until the third line in 'Control'.
