I am currently working on a project to create a resource for tuba players who wish to utilize their musical gift in service of their local church. The project involves researching praise and worship solos written for other instruments and recording each of the solos to demonstrate whether or not the selected solos are suitable for tuba. So far, I have recorded selections from the following books:
1) Easy Great Hymns - Curnow (Trombone)
2) Great Hymns - Curnow (Trumpet)
3) More Great Hymns - Curnow (Trumpet)
4) 18 Intermediate Christmas Favorites - Clark and Strommen (Trombone)
5) Spiritual Medley No. 1 - Robert Mott (Bass Trombone)

I plan to continue researching and recording more solos as I acquire new literature. I hope you all find this to be a useful resource and I hope this project encourages others to praise the Lord with the tuba.

Dan,

Could you list with the books the instrument the music was written for that you are playing?

Thanks...LH

I trust you have obtained permission from the copyright holders to record and upload the performances to Youtube?

Thank you all very much for your help with finding more literature to research. Peter Birch, I am a member of the Salvation Army and I have performed a lot of the tunes from the Salvation Army's tune books. They work very well for solo tuba and piano. In the future, I will try to include some of the tunes in this project. Again, thank you all very much for your help.

Pgym, I don't really understand all of the copyright laws pertaining to making recordings and uploading the recordings of copyrighted music to youtube, so I have taken the videos down until I receive further clarification on this issue. Lord willing, I hope to make this resource available to as many people as possible. Thank you for making me aware of this issue.

I'm not a lawyer, so take this advice for what you're paying. .. it's not legal. Now, your church may have arrangements with SOME publishers for use in services and other activities, but that is probably not covering you in this exploit.

Steve,

I have contacted the copyright holders and I will contact ASCAP tomorrow to obtain the appropriate liscense(s) required for public performances. Thank you very much for your advice.

What you need is probably mechanical rights. I'm not criticizing your project at all, but you need to work with the publishers. Don't worry about ASCAP for the moment, the publishers will tell you if that's necessary. They may be glad to work with you, if it increases sales. Maybe.

Years ago. before I started playing tuba, Tim Northcutt was a member of my church in Marietta, GA. Tim used to regularly play tuba solos with piano or organ accompaniment right from the hymnal. His basic road map was introduction by the keyboard and then one verse and chorus in the mid register. The keyboard would then improvise a verse and sometimes a key change before Tim would come back in an octave higher. Very simple but it worked extremely well. Of course if you play as well as Tim you don't have to get fancy. The choir director's husband still talks about how moving those tuba solos were.

Don't worry about copyright laws. Play the music, worse they can do is take down your videos. They can't sue you or jail you.

Tbn.al,

Thank you for sharing about Tim Northcutt's solo performances in your church. I will try using the form you recommended with the Salvation Army tune books.

Leto Cruise,

I appreciate your support. I have already contacted the copyright holders and I have been given permission to proceed with the project. I should be able to make the videos available soon.

Again, thank you all very much. I look forward to continuing this project.

I purchased 41 Carols for Tuba this season and am looking to broaden my repertoire.

Can I suggest "A closer walk with thee" next??

I got my 41 carols from score exchange.com
