The Avengers?

This B&W photo looks like it could be one of the tongue-in-cheek scenes from the original British TV series, "The Avengers." Imagine the character John Steed teeing off from the top of the table while Mrs. Peel lounges - with a large tuba - on the sofa.

Is that indeed the actor Diana Rigg in the photo?

More apropos to this forum, what model tuba is that? Cerveny 601?

Looks to me like you're three-for-three there. :tuba:

I'm no Diana Rigg expert, but I would be a quarter that is she. The cheekline and eyes look right.

That tuba looks more like a Bohland & Fuchs 'kaiser' to me.

There is a scene in "Brassed Off" where the two tuba players are walking to a rehearsal and one of them is carrying a Cervevy like the one in the picture. The other guy has a Besson and the Cerveny doesn't reappear in the movie.Ed

Thank you, Tubahed.

The entire episode can be viewed at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xwn071 ... shortfilms.

The scene in question begins at 26:37. Mrs. Peel is "playing" Wagner's "Here Comes the Bride" theme. "She" interjects other notes, including a low Eb at 27:29. At 27:24, we hear The Ride in f minor. At 27:51, Mr. Steed's "tee" lands in her face; but she is undaunted, continuing to play and chat. At 28:21, Mr. Steed 's golf swing ostensibly lands the ball in the bell of the tuba (at least we hear the well-timed sound of that effect).

Obviously, Diana Rigg is not really playing the tuba (could it have been John Fletcher supplying the tuba notes?). To her credit, she blows in fairly good sync with the notes and does not use the ridiculous facial expression of blowing her brains out on every note as other actors do with a tuba.

All in all, a very cute scene, whether you focus on Diana Rigg, the tuba, or both. Oh, and Patrick Macnee does a fine job as well.

Sorry Steve, I don't even see a tuba. Anyone else notice how much the Duchess of Windsor resembles Diana.
