Here's a pic of my new axe!

Image

Note the optional and removable mouthpiece protector!

I bought it on ebay for $25 all-in. (Actually, that's a deal. I saw many of this ilk for $75-$100 before shipping!)

Has anyone tried their hand at playing the jug?
I've been playing in a super fun band where I think I might have call for this.
It certainly builds up the stamina in my chops and I'm having a ball.

Well, since I have "jug" in my screen name, let me be the first to say, nice jug!

Carolyn Johns (Cazzbo) on jug:

Some claim that coal oil (galvanized steel) jugs have better resonance ...

You need to purchase another one. So you can say "I have a nice pair of jugs"!

At one point I joked with my wife about getting a license plate that said "ILVJUGS" (I love jugs), referring to the P-47 Thunderbolt...but we decided against it. :)

And then you need to get a third so you can jug-gle.

Wow. Playing jug is a great work-out. If you're on-board with free buzzing, it's a fun warm-up. Playing/buzzing sustained lines/melodies takes a whole lot of control and support. Plus... This thing's a riot.

We've had one hanging around for years, because it has on it the brand imprint of an early 20th c. spring water company that was the economic basis of my wife's hometown (Dawson "Springs", KY). Never occurred to me to try to play it. Will try when I get home!
