I hope this is not too silly of a question. I have a couple of horns with the thumb rings that are adjustable via a round, knurled "nut". While I really don't mind the thumb ring, I am annoyed by its always coming loose. I get it positioned so that it feels comfortable and allows me to use the 5th valve trigger and after a while it works loose. How can I get it to stay in place without soldering or permanently affixing it? I also don't think using pliers is a good idea. Could I maybe use an "O" ring or some kind of lock washer between the bottom of the nut and the place it threads in to? Anyhow.... any info will be much appreciated so thanks in advance.

Borrow the moderators thread lock or use loctite 425

I use loctite, but NOT the permanent. I THINK the blue stuff is NOT permanent. I believe the red stuff is 'forever bonded.'

Clear nail polish on the threads. Hit it with some, adjust it. let it dry. Will hold well but NOT be permanent if you want to move it later.

There is purple "low strength" loctite, specifically designed for soft metals, that I use on brass. Unfortunately, you have to order it via the internet since local stores almost never carry it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will try Wade's solution first. The idea of a tech possibly being harmed by something of which they are unaware because I forgot to tell him, is not pleasant to contemplate. I know the amount of loctite, etc. is very small but I already have pliers and rags on hand. Again, thanks to everyone.

Yep, the blue stuff works fine for me. You don't need much, just a drop on the threads.
