I am looking for a tuba solo with band that is intermediate level for the tuba and also not very difficult for the band.

Ideas? Thanks!

I did the Old Grumbly Bear with our band last summer. It is a crowd pleaser, not too long and fairly easy for the band and the soloist.

Tuba Smarties easy two octave range and simple band part.

You could consider "Tubarag" by Frackenpohl. The band part might be a rental though. The tuba part covers two octaves from B flat below the staff to the C above the staff. Good tune but it will take some effort on the tubist part.

I am working on the Frackenpohl Variations for Tuba and Band. The variations are on The Cobblers Tune, AKA Pop Goes the Weasel. It is kind of silly, but fun too. I'm not sure what qualifies as intermediate. The range is from low F to C above the staff. There is one optional ossia passage that goes up to an Eb above the staff. It is not difficult. An above average high school player could probably do it. There are some arpeggiated passages that had I not neglected my Arban studies would probably give me considerably less trouble. There are a few spots with some leaps and a few moderately tricky bits in the cadenza. It has been a long time since I have done any kind of solo playing.

The band part is pretty easy. It does not have parts for tuba or euphonium. The instrumentation is much like an orchestral wind section plus string bass.

Bass in the Ballroom is a good one, but an import and might take a bit to arrive to the states if that where it is needed. A couple octaves needed for that on as well. Essentially Eb above the staff to Bb below the staff, but fun for the player and the band.

"A Touch of Tuba" by Art Dedrick, published by Kendor, (as Bloke just mentioned) is just what you are looking for. I thought it was long out of print, but am glad that they are still carrying it.
