Clip on mics are for real-time music (not recording studios). Eventually, someone is going to bump into it and whack it.

I bought an "affordable" (decent...certainly not studio quality) kick mic (like one would use next to a bass drum) for my rig.

I built a sturdy microphone holder, which is also adjustable to various bell diameters. This allows me to use a standard microphone, and to not require a "phantom power" box...one more thing which can break.

Something else that I purchased was a wireless transmitter. Although (yes) it's "one more thing that can break",
- it greatly frees me up on stage, and
- greatly reduces the chances of damage (i.e. me or someone else yanking on, stepping on, or tripping on cords).

*That having been said, money is quickly hyperinflating, and is becoming more-and-more worthless...so - were I to buy something today, rather than five years ago - I might find that I would need to spend more than I did at that time.
