To Bb or not to Bb...

Hey there Tuba world!

I am going to by one of Wessex Tubas travel tubas but I am unsure if I should be equipped with a BBb or CC. I have a CC tuba and and perfectly proficient in both keys. The biggest concern I have is in the weight of the two tubas. I do a lot of traveling and camping and I am hoping to use this tuba to keep my chops up while on the road. The BBb weighs 5.2 kg and the CC comes in at 4.9 kg. Should I be worried about the 0.3 kg when making my decision?

Thanks!

In my opinion, you should purchase the tuba in the key you will get the most use either now or in the foreseeable future. Answer the question which key do you play more or like to play more? The weight isn't the issue. Travel tubas have the advantage of being easy to transport. They are fun to play. They are harder to blow because of the smaller tubing. There are tone issues too. Don't plan on being heard in a large band or orchestra. With that said, they are great for practice, small groups, solos, etc. If price is an issue, there is a CC available in the for sale section.

If you are planning on owning the little horn for a long time (years), either key probably would be OK. If you think it might lose its novelty after a year or so, BBb might be better because, of all of the keys tuba players use, in the US, the BBb is the most common and it could be easier to sell.
