College Audition - Vaclav Nelhybel vs. Haddad Suite

Going to audition for college in a year's time, and I am torn over these pieces. I find the Haddad to be somewhat easier for technical stuff, ie rhythm and articulation, but it goes to middle c whereas the Nelhybel goes only to the G in the staff. Yet, I find Nelhybel to be more complicated rhythmically, and that the dynamics and articulations vary a lot more.

I guess either would be fine to audition with, but I need to make a decision to start preparing.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks, all!

Easy answer - both. If that truly is not an option, then, as I recall, the Haddad has more lyrical moments, so it would tell a discriminating listener more about that, whereas the Nelhybel would say more about rhythmic integrity. Go to your strength if one or the other is a weakness. Which is why I circle back to "both."

If you like both, play them both. Working too much on one piece tends to make a player worse instead better anyway. If you want to major in music do a lot of singing and piano too, it will save you time later.

Don't worry so much.
An college audition is NOT to convince them you don't need them, they look for someone they can teach and improve. All you need to do is show them that you're that you're serious, and are willing to work.

I vote for the Haddad. The music is more listenable and probably will result in a more musical performance. That would be a good thing for an audition.
