I believe that you did outline the procedure here some time ago. I was inspired by it. There's also a pretty good account of it in the Allied catalog, but I suppose posting that would be a copyright infringement.

You don't even really need the special tool to do it. I made a poor man's version out of steel rod (it's actually about an 1/8" diameter loom needle from some junk my son bought at an auction) by bending it into an L shape and adding a zip tie slider to it. It seems to work fine -- with the HF digital caliper, of course.

The special tool is a bit niftier and maybe a bit more precise -- depending on how much effort you put into your home-made version.

What I really want is a bore scope that's cheap enough and also small enough to work in the required places. Lots of uses for one of those.
