Happy Valentine's Day all. I've got a couple of Martin Mammoths (3V/26" and 4V/28") and one of'em needs to come with me on a little tour of the Pacific NW this June.
I love my girls. I need them to be safe. But so far the only solution I can find on Tubenet or the larger web would be a custom case from Unitec that would cost an unspeakable amount of cash (and utterly conquer my tiny San Francisco apartment, but there's no getting around that). Any other Martin/jumbo sousaphone owners out there find a way to protect the horn for less than $1000?
Thank you!!

Re: Jumbo Sousaphone Cases.
Thanks fellow kiltbrother. Consider me interested in yours - whatcha got? And do you think there's a way to add some kind of foam insert to make it work for both bell sizes? (The 4V is in the shop right now while the tech puzzles out how to fix a major tuning slide munch - the brass is so thick and the damage so nasty he's worried about splitting the brass.)
I chatted with the folks at MTS and got a little nervy because they clearly ignored the measurements provided and just said they they "fit a yamaha fibber glass horn" into their stock case so obviously it should fit mine. The other company I talked to was much more on the ball and said they just didn't have a solve for horns that size. Apparently I was the second Martin sousa guy to ask about it that week!

My Martins won't fit into my SKB case. The Conn 40K will just make it but the circumference of the Martin is a tad larger.

Ha. Yes, well, there's always that option too. I'm actually picking up a lovely Martin 6/4 BAT tomorrow to round out my Martin obsession and the previous owner built a custom case out of a bass drum case and an oversized DOG carrier. Basically just filled the entire carrier with foam so the horn slides in nice and snug and then painted the whole thing black. It doesn't belong in the Louvre but it's a pretty clever solve.
