Who would you take your tuba to for dent work and a cleaning in the Huntsville, Alabama area? Failing that, around Birmingham? Nashville, as a last resort?

Bloke's a short drive across the North border.

There is a company in Huntsville that I have spoken with, Southeastern Musical Services. I can't recommend them because I haven't used them or seen any of their work. I also haven't used Bloke (located outside of Memphis) for any repairs yet but, if you read some of the comments from folks that have done business with him, you would be calling him up.

Oh, believe me, I have no problem doing business with bloke. But for a routine cleaning and dents he's 3 1/3 + hours away. Fourteen hours of driving for routine stuff seems a little much to me, no matter how excellent the shop may be!

Right now I'm up to my eyeballs in moving, but I'll look into Southeastern Musical Services when I get there and get a little settled. Thanks!

There was a repair tech in the city where I used to live. I wasn't a fan for various reasons, but that's another topic. What he did, that more techs should do (I have no idea if Bloke does this) was book a time slot in his schedule for your work.

Something routine like cleaning and a couple dents can be done quickly by a good tech (1 hour, 2?) So, this tech would tell you to bring the horn before Noon and come pick it up between 4 and 5. That way, you wouldn't be without your horn for two weeks for a Horn that only requires 2 hours.

He's the only person in town I trust with my stuff. Not saying there are not other quality people in town, but some of them seem to 1/2ass their way around big instruments in preference of cornets/trumpets.

After this suggestion and PMs both for and against, I decided to try this shop to get a tuba ready to sell in light of my recent purchase.

They did a FANTASTIC job for a better than fair price.

You have moved to Huntsville-Alabama?

TN likely has several members there. One that I know about is Helen Gillespie, former tubist of the 14th Army Band. She has a (non-brass)-business on Northside Square. Still plays the tuba.
