Big Bob's Martin CC
Big Bob's Martin CC
Lee recently did some work on Big Bob's Martin-Gnagey CC and he asked me to post some pictures. Bob can chime in if he has more details. This is a quick list of what was done:
- modified Conn 4th top and bottom caps to match King parts, re-tapped 4th piston to accept King valve stem, fitted it with King finger button
- heavily modified the rotor linkage, adding G-50 lever to rod, re-shaping rod and cutting it, fastened together with Miniball links
- changed rotor travel by 90 degrees to facilitate linkage design, modifying stem and moving bumper strike plate 90 degrees
- added brace between outsider main slide tube on small side and lower 4th tubing, stabilizing intonation and response
- buffed, polished, chem-cleaned, bright-dipped and waxed body
-buffed and lacquered external valve parts, leadpipe and receiver, and bell interior

Aah, the famous Stofer garage door glamor shots.
I can never get over the size of that top bow. What a gigantic tuba in a short, squatty package. VERY cool.

Does that imply the 3 first valves have a bore of 0.689"?

It's indicative of Lee's good-natured manner and talent in the shop that he was willing to take on a horn that was custom (re)built by someone else (when Lee does that type of work himself) and do such a wonderful job for Big Bob.

Lee is talented and a nice guy (he didn't even want to ask me for more money for the ecstra work he did!!) I'm very satisfied IF I ever get my horn!<S>....He also took the top main slide tuner off which was causing vibration and added a new water key.....He, even machined the Conn. cap to make it look like the others that was great!! Far more than antispated!! He also was kind enough to call me to let me know what he was doing while fighting bad head cold so I wouldn't worry...Wasn't that nice??.......................................................................................BB
