Mouthpiece advice

Post by greenbean »

I am looking for advice on a good beginner mouthpiece. I thought I would find tons of threads on this topic. But I am not seeing them...

So, I am a trombonist with NO tuba experience. I just picked up a gorgeous VMI 103 BBb and I am using a Helleberg 7B. Is that a good place to start?

Sure!

This is one of those questions where almost every answer is equally good, so ... you have to wonder. But it's a moderate size mouthpiece, which is objectively a good thing, and it's probably the most direct descendant of the original Helleberg mouthpieces, maybe the most "august" tuba mouthpiece design ever.

Thanks, Donn. I will stick with it and see how it goes. So far, so good!
