Wow !! The bigger story here could be: Wallpaper Hanger Gives Up Business to Play Tuba in an Orchestra. Sounds backwards, but…….In 1974, after getting my MM at Eastman, I went out to Indiana to study with Harvey. Although I wasn't enrolled in any programs at IU, I was around the studio most of the time. Tom Walsh was a student there at the time. I remember hearing that he and Daryl Smith (also from IU) had either won European orchestra positions, or moved to Europe and then won positions. Fast forward to around 2000, and my wife brought a wallpaper hanger in on Long Island, based upon recommendation from a friend. I was only there for an hour of one of the 2 days he was there hanging wallpaper. I mentioned to him that I knew a Tom Walsh from IU, blah, blah and he said he thought my name was familiar. We talked for only 10-15 min. He said he no longer plays tuba and he wanted to know if I knew of anyone who would like to buy a Marzan tuba that he used to play. I remembered the tuba. I told him I would check around. Fast forward some more. I didn't find any interested buyers, never got in touch with Tom again, and eventually moved to Texas. Upon seeing this post, I looked around for any receipts or business cards from Tom, but I couldn't find any.

Sooo, how is it that Tom, who played tuba in a German orchestra, left to come back to the USA and start a career hanging wallpaper? Well, I guess that's not really strange, but the fact that he told me he no longer plays and that he wanted to sell his tuba and that now he's back in Germany playing in an orchestra, now thats weird !!!

That's a long story, but I can't help you with contact info. Sorry !!

Hello,
Besides his work with Munich Philharmonics Tom Walsh is also the tubist with the Munich ensemble Blechschaden.
You can certainly get the contact through them. http://www.blechschaden.de/ensemble/tom-walsh.html.
They are all brass players from the Munich Philharmonics and are very popular in Germany.
They are led by the Scottish french horn player Bob Ross.
Good Luck,
Lars
