I have always felt that this was one of the best recordings of a tuba ever done and the best recording of the piece(Midsummers). Luckily, that particular recording(the COMPLETE Midsummers Night Dream music) has been re-issued on cd. I have always liked Previns work with London. If you ever run across the Prokofiev 5th(1971) with the same forces as well as a Shosty 8th(1972) consider yourself lucky. I have been searching for years. While I am being rather long winded, the only other tuba friendly recording that comes close to the Mendelssohn is a Leinsdorf/Prokofiev/Romeo and Juliet done on RCA with Boston from 1968. Chester Schmitz' playing redefined how I thought of the the tuba should sound from that day forward when I first heard it. Astounding. Congrats on a great find!!!
