Rotary Neptune leadpipe mismatch?

Post by bort »

Long shot, here...

The Medium and Large leadpipes on my Neptune are mismatched (different serial numbers). The medium pipe fits and aligns perfectly, and the large leadpipe takes a little bit of "German Engineering" to kind of get it to fit. It isn't aligned perfectly, and besides the s/n mismatch, seems like it clearly came from another horn.

Anyone out there have the same issue with a large pipe that doesn't quite fit?

Yes, I realize the large leadpipe I have can be made to work, and at this point, I don't really anticipate using it much. Just curious.... stranger things have happened. :tuba:

Opposite on mine; the small pipe is aftermarket and not-quite-perfect, while the large pipe is fine.

I had a similar problem with my Miraphone 1293. A trip to Dan Oberloh's shop (700 miles) solved that and many other issues. I found if there was a bind in the lead pipe mounting it would put a bind on the first valve and it would stick some of the time. Also taking out the tension on the lead pipe opened up the sound considerably. I was there when he did it and the before and after was amazing. A good preferably great repair artist will make this right for you. Good luck, Phil

Interesting how much difference it can make!

I don't plan on using the large pipe very much, so rather than spend ANY $ on it, just curious about trade options if someone by some small chance has the matching one. :)
