Just an amazing horn. Who feels the same way? How many of you use this tuba? Four or five valves?

I've had my Rudy 5/4 for 3 years and all I can say is what a spectacular horn! My only concern is that it is a HUGE horn. And I'm just a little guy. Mine has 5 valves and a 2nd valve kicker that comes in handy for low F# and pedal D. All ranges are colorful and full no matter how low or high you go. I've had the best success playing on a Mike Finn 3B with it. Such a dark sound that has no problem filling up a hall. A great product of handmade craftsmanship.

I bought my five valve 5/4 Rudy CC in 1978 and it is the only CC I have ever owned. I almost made the HUGE mistake of selling it after I got engineering degree and was low on funds. Thank goodness I woke up from that nightmare. I have used several mouthpieces, including a Schilke 67 (the MP I was using at the time I bought it), followed by a standard Conn Helleberg. Later, I moved to a Dillon M1C, then finally to the combo of the Laskey 30H and a Floyd Cooley Helleberg, which I use about 95% of the time. I am waiting on my newly acquired Warburton AJ Helleberg, which should (hopefully) arrive today. I have used this instrument for everything from solos to quintet to band and orchestra with nothing but great experiences.

I've played two. The 4-Rotor version was possibly more open. I've also played a lot on the PT-6 rotor which is also great but a bit smaller. Wish I could afford the HB-6 at Baltimore Brass. So sweet. But not better than my Rudy.

I bought my five valve Rudy six months ago. It is an old tuba but it has the most amazing sound. I use it with a Schmidt b2 mouthpiece. :tuba:
