I guess tuba players aren't the only "collectors" out there.

Question: How many "serious" collectors are on this board?
By that, I mean more than 3 tubas.

Visualise, if you will, an "8" lying on its side ...

I don't have as many as DP had when he took his picture. But I have enough so that people think I'm nuts. I have three Bb tubas, 2-1/2 F tubas, two euphonium/baritones, and two trombones, in increasing order of incompetence.

When I was involved in triathlon, I substantially increased my supply of bicycles from the collection I already had left over from my bike-racing days in college. I was at a bike shop in Houston with a friend, and she asked the guy behind the counter how many bikes he had. "I'm down a little at the moment. Only twelve." That took a lot of pressure off me--I only have eight--er--nine.

My wife won't let me collect musical instruments but she,like me,is a boataholic.She let me get six boats and except for a 38 foot houseboat that is for sale only because the marina blew away in Hurricane Ivan,the

to us and we can't imagine life without them.

Ewww.....sitting right at three....I'm not a tuba collector yet, but I'm saving up for that bigger CC....

But do I have to have "just" tubas? Does anything that "looks like" a tuba count? Like my MW bariton, or my Keefer alto? if you sit the similar wraps all side-by-side in size order....it's kind of cute. Makes my 184 CC look really big sitting there at the end of the line, with alto first, followed by Bb bariton, followed by MW F, then the CC. Sort of like a family....pop, mom, big kid, little kid.

yeah I know I'm nuts. The real problem is that I play too many things....I did percussion last week as a sub, this week I'm subbing on solo alto horn, I'm doing orchestra concerts as 2nd horn, and in May I'm going to be playing a violin solo and euph in the same concert, OR violin solo plus the tuba/piccolo solo for Stars and Stripes, if we can't find a tuba player.

If it looks like a tuba, it probably is a tuba (including the "baby" of the family -- the flugelhorn, a.k.a. soprano tuba). That's a nice family you have there!

Sounds like you're having a great time -- nothing wrong with that!

I own a MW2165, PT6, PT3, and a PT15. My national guard unit also issues me a Miraphone 186.

All of them are very special and unique. Very hard to imagine letting any of them go(other than financial reasons) unless the replacement filled the same niche and was noticably better. In my happy little dream world there are a few other tubas I would *love* to own. But realistically I've already long ago passed what I *need* into the realm of just darn fun to play.

In my happy little dream world I would also own a MW32, MW37, MW2000, and Alexander Tenor Tuba. Oh.. and two bohemian style Helicons with five valves.. one in C or Bb and one in F. Andandandand...
