Rejoined the CC ranks

The Miraclone certainly fits the nickname. Wow. I received the used Mack Brass 410 CC yesterday. I've spent enough time with it to know 1)it really does feel and look like a 186 2)it does have amazing pitch 3) the sound is pretty remarkable.
It's been nearly 30 years since I've played a 186 with any regularity, and 26 years since I played CC more than a few minutes a year. The fingers are there, but I need to find the right mouthpiece and simply get used to it.
I've found that tuning the 5th valve to a slightly sharp 1 1/2 step makes it act like a compensating valve for the most part. I dunno if that will last, but it's an interesting concept. I think there's enough slide to put it to the 2 step length too.
Fun stuff. Now that I have all the tuba keys, I just need a cimbasso.
