These big old Martins are very special. You are very lucky to have one. They play wonderfully. I think they are as good as a York and in some ways better. I've had several professional players test mine and they all are very impressed with the sound. I had Lee Stofer do a similar restoration to mine. Congratulations!!!

Question -- is it just an illusion, or does the main tuning slide extend past the bottom bow?

I agree with the other sentiments, and will add that in an era of cheapo Chinese horns, it's awesome to see (presumably) a similar amount of money spent on restoration and keeping a classic tuba (and style) alive. I think the tuba world gains a lot from things like this. Congratulations, play it proudly!
