Hello Tubenetters,

Received the very sad news yesterday of the unexpected passing away of Bob Rusk. At the time of his passing he was 66 years old. Bob played tuba in the Milwaukee Symphony for 25 years. He retired in his 40's to Indiana where he had grown up. He has since spent his time playing in local groups throughout Michigan and Indiana. He is also know for his CC cuts that he used to do on York and Holton tubas. He often was able to piece together 2 or 3 trashed BBb instruments and make them into one very playable 5 valve CC tuba. He was also an avid flute player and was taking lessons with pro players. Bob was very intelligent and always doing research into different aspects of tone and playing through scientific approaches. He will be greatly missed by many of us. A service will be held mid July when his ashes will be buried.

This is indeed sad news. I had the opportunity to study with Bob my senior year at Northwestern. He was a great guy and an excellent teacher. He will be missed.

RIP

So sad to hear of Bob's passing.

I have a Rusk-Cut York CC he made for me in the early 1990's. It has been my mainstay all these years. I'll always think of him when I play it.

God Bless you Bob, and rest in peace.

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We only met once and he was helpful and respectful to me as a student. Very kind man.

(Brian Frederiksen) I first met Bob as a student at Northwestern - it was apparent that he knew his stuff! We kept in contact afterwards. When I was working on the Jacobs book, Bob became the main proofreader, he did his job quietly although he did not want to take any credit. I would like to share a video of him from the 1984 gathering with Mr Jacobs and many of his students that Dee Stewart moderated. Here he tell the story of driving to Chicago to hear a single note! Thank you Bob, I will miss you! http://www.windsongpress.com/rusk84.mp4
