More info for the celebration of Arnold Jacobs' 100th birthday for tomorrow, June 11.
Thursday, June 11
Here is what I received from Carl Grapentine, host of the Morning Show on WFMT. All times listed are Central Daylight Time, so if you are streaming on a computer, you know what to do:
Subject: Hi, Gene!
These are the current plans for the Arnold Jacobs Centennial.
I have a few CSO recordings during the morning show. Then late in the 8am hour, I will play some Wagner selections from the 1971 Educational Brass Recordings (now on CD) album with the 1971 CSO Low Brass Ensemble. Then I have some of the legendary Gabrieli album and some Reiner recordings during the 9am hour including Mussorgsky’s “Pictures.” We’ll be playing the Vaughan Williams Concerto during the 4pm hour. And then a rebroadcast of a “Profiles” program about Jake during the 11pm hour.
Oh…also: the 8:30 quiz question is about him.
Sound good?
Carl Grapentine

Information for the radio broadcast on Sunday, June 14 from Marc Geelhoed, the fellow who runs the CSO Resound label :
Hi Gene, Rex, and Floyd,
I wanted to alert you that the Tribute to Arnold Jacobs program you contributed to will be on WFMT-FM 98.7 this Sunday from 1-3 CT. It will stream simultaneously from wfmt.com at that time. Beginning Monday until July 28, it will be available on-demand at cso.org/radio, with extended segments of your interviews which we couldn’t fit into the radio version posted separately. Please feel free to share this with your colleagues and students; any help you can give in spreading the news is very appreciated.
Here’s the playlist of works that are included. The beginning of the program is from a previous show, which included Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony (strings only), and Vaughan Williams’s Tuba Concerto with Gene. The works showcasing Jacobs follow after that from commercial CSO recordings. Your commentaries are throughout the show.
