Pulled a boner

Tuba off to the repair shop this morning. Gave the tuba a bath last night had it all cleaned out and working fine. Was practicing and pulled the first valve out to apply some oil, and the valve slipped out of my hand. It couldn't land on the soft carpet but hit the legs of the manhasset stand. Inserted the valve and it's sticking badly must have knocked it out of round. It gets better as I play it but not good enough for the Concert I have to play on Saturday. I'm hoping there is a quick remedy since this is my only Tuba (otherwise I'll have to try to borrow a horn, or play the concert on my fiberglass sousaphone which would be less than desirable for a concert band gig).

Wow. That sucks. I hope it is a easy fix. Good luck.

Once I took a valve out to oil it and dropped it on a concrete floor in the basement. It was so out of round it wouldn't even go back in the casing. It took the repair tech about 3 minutes to get its shape back. An easy fix with the right tool.

:D

Crisis averted, took it in this morning picked it up this afternoon good as new. Will be ready for this Saturday's concert. This does remind me that I really do need to get a second instrument as a back up. It's time for an upgrade soon anyways.
