Tuba/Sousa Cleaning Tub?

Post by Wes Krygsman »

Hello Tubenet,
I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for a tub/basin for home cleaning your instrument.

More specifically, I am looking for an item similar to this:
http://www.amazon.com/Tuff-Stuff-Produc ... X2NG14R54P
that I could use to clean out my horns at home. I have used the bathtub in the past, but I would prefer a portable outdoor dunk tank type option that might fit both sousaphones and concert tubas. I would prefer that it be big and deep enough to fully submerge the instrument if possible. Anyone have anything they use?

A Stock tank may work for you.

I use this one - a bit narrower and taller, more "tuba shaped" - 53"L X 31"W X 25"H. It's even decent for sousaphones:

Italian motorcycles and cars ...
German cameras and tubas ...

Yup. I have two of these tanks. They have a bottom drain that I didn't see on the others.

I got one of those from Tractor Supply. Mine has a nice drain cock on it. Very helpful. I leave it in my yard upside down. When I need it I flip it on its side and wash it out. Then I drag it to the driveway and fill it up. Not one scratch on my old tuba since the tub is plastic. Makes a great beer table in the shade.

Home Depot sells a plastic tub to mix cement in. It works great to wash a tuba in and I think runs around $6.00
