I noticed CustomMusic is selling a 3/4 BBb with 4 piston valves on eBay. Does anyone know anything about these horns? How do they play compared to the other 3/4 BBb piston tubas? What are the valves made of? Stainless, Monel, etc. Any info appreciated. I'm in the market for a small BBb. Thanks.

It is from the days when Fred Marrich was still around. Custom Music was looking for a cheaper line as an alternative to the PT line. It is indeed a re-branded Weril.

Four valves seem working good.

It's worth the watch just for the propaganda slideshow over his right shoulder.

According to the comments on You tube, this guy is lip-synching:

How about admitting that that isn't you playing? David "Red" Lehr, sousaphone. Asshole.
If the piece was actually played on a sousaphone, this doesn't tell you too much about how the Weril plays.

Edit: here is the only Weril J680 piece that turns up when you search you-tube:

I ignored the Russian playing multi-phonics - it looked just as fake as the other guy, and it just sounds as bad as most multiphonics, you can't tell what the tuba might do if someone played it.

Don't know what specific model number it was I played but it was a 4/4 BBb, a monster of a 4/4 I must say, and apart from being under cared for, this thing played very klunky and very plain. Not terrible, but not great sounding. I believe it was a clone of the Yamaha 4/4 BBb that many schools in my area seem to use at the middle school/high school level. Intonation is not that great, but I have played worse.
